At 18|8 Elm Grove, we work with men all over Milwaukee who want to ensure their facial hair is well-maintained and upkept—this is done through straight razor shaves, endless styling tips, and cleaning. Yes, we know it’s No Shave November and we encourage you to participate and even donate some money or time to the Movember Foundation, but here are some things to know to maintain a brutally manly beard in the meantime.
1) Neckbeards are the worst
Take it from the neckbeard slayers, neckbeards are the worst and nobody thinks you’re more manly for touting one. Follow your natural jawline when shaving your neckbeard and don’t forget to maintain it frequently—maybe even daily, if required. It’s not cute to even have a 5 o’clock shadow on your neck. Stay responsible. Stay manly. Say no to the neckbeard. If you’d like, we can give you a second pair of eyes and ensure your beard is well-groomed and looking great.
2) Wash Your Beard
Just like hair, it’s important to wash your beard. Nothing stinks more than all of the food grease, slobber, and whatever else ends up in there after a few days of manliness. Find a beard wash you like for a do-it-your-own method, or come in and we’ll get your beard smelling great in a jiffy!
3) Condition Your Beard
You don’t want your beard to be scraggly. You want it full and manly, right? Ensure your beard is looking nice and complete with a smooth application of conditioner after your wash. This will allow your date to run their fingers through your beard without any snags, so you can continue with your night unalarmed.
On a similar note, beard balms are leave-in conditioners that’ll enhance the job, as well. Or allow you to give your beard a quick refresh when you need it most. Try those too.
4) Beard Oil
Have you ever looked at a man and thought, “Damn, what a nice beard that fella has.” It was likely the beard oil. Beard oil gives your beard that irresistible shine. Applyer be warned: beard oil only requires a few drops to be effective. Don’t drench your beard otherwise you’ll look like you just got out of the shower all day long. Beard oil is a great substitute for beard balms, but not an addition. Using both may leave your beard too greasy and will look gross. But if you like the greasy look, go for it.
5) Comb Your Beard
We know it’s weird at first, combing your beard. However, the benefits are immediately seen and you’ll be glad you did. This helps avoid snags, gives your beard an even look and allows you to style it in many ways. It might even be worth keeping a beard comb in your back pocket in case the wind gets your beard riled up.
