TV2[3]

We are well into the summer and the streets are hot enough to sear a steak, much less fry an egg. Last time we talked TV we took you through June. Now it’s time to prime you for July and August. Good news: there’re some hot shows coming to get you through the hottest part of the year in air-conditioned glory in front of the TV.

“Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll” (FX)
Thursdays, Starting July 16 at 10 p.m.
Even without the title, the fact that Denis Leary headlines this show is enough. Denis practically seems to play himself as Johnny Rock, a has-been rocker with the fictitious Heathens who’s taking a shot at a second chance with a new female singer. Really, again, you had us at Denis.

Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!
SyFy, July 22 at 10 p.m.
Though technically not a show, Sharknado can’t be left out of any best-worst-just-plain-fun list of summer TV. This time the sharks take a bite out of Washington, D.C, and Orlando, FL. The cast of 1 and 2 return, including Ian Zeiring and Tara Reid, plus they are joined by luminaries of the stage and screen like Bo Derek and David Hasselhoff. Bring popcorn!

“Wet Hot American Summer” (Netflix)
Friday, July 31 at 12 a.m.
Another series that’s ready-made to binge watch, Netflix will release the entire run at once. A prequel to the 2001 cult comedy flick, we see the beginnings of the counselors and campers of Firewood Camp in 1981. Featuring feathered hair, 80’s fashion and a stellar cast including Amy Pooehler, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks, Chris Pine, Kirsten Wig and Paul Rudd, this is a can’t miss.

“Blunt Talk” (Starz)
Saturday, August 22 at 9 p.m.
Last, but by no means least, Patrick Stewart returns to the small screen as Walter Blunt, a Brit newscaster with his own talk show in America. He’s a hilariously troubled character with multiple failed marriages and a drug problem. Really, to sum up why you should watch this: Sir. Patrick. Stewart. On. Drugs. ‘Nuf said.

We’ll catch you on the couch, next to the air conditioner. Don’t Bogart the remote.
