18|8 Topanga Stylists Trained To Spot Skin Cancer!

Your next haircut might just save your life. 18│8 Fine Men’s Salon in Topanga is proud to support World Cancer Day with some very special news:
we are joining the fight against skin cancer with specialized training for all of our stylists and barbers. Skin cancer is the most prevalent type of cancer in the U.S., with more cases annually than all other types of cancer combined. Fortunately, there is a 98 percent survival rate if these cancers are recognized and treated early.

Our team is training with Eyes On Cancer, a non-profit organization devoted to training beauty professionals to recognize skin abnormalities on the scalp, neck and face. Heroes like Shelby, who recognized her father’s melanoma when he came in to her studio for his regular haircut, have been trained to detect skin cancers early. This training can lead to early detection of cancers, which ultimately saves lives.

Each of 18 | 8 Topanga’s barbers and stylists who participate in the training will be taught to run through the acronym, ABCDE, to recognize whether a skin abnormality could be a sign of something serious. The acronym stands for: asymmetry, border irregularity, color that is not uniform, diameter greater than 6mm, and evolution in shape or color.

Steve Boyadzhyan, the owner of 18|8 Topanga said of the program, “Our stylists are first line responders that are naturally in a position to recognize skin cancer and melanoma at their earliest stages. We are very excited to get them trained so we can all fight cancer together!”

It is our goal to help protect our clientele even after they have left the barber’s chair. Come enjoy a handcrafted men’s haircut at 18│8 Topanga and get the peace of mind you need. We service the entire area including Woodland Hills, Canoga Park, Calabasas and Topanga. Be sure to follow us on social media (@188Topanga) for more news, specials, and exclusive discounts.
